In her latest book “Knockout,” Somers speaks with doctors and health professionals who are successfully using the most advanced cancer treatments. The best-seller includes a collection of one-on-one interviews with the physicians who are effectively beating cancer using cutting-edge therapies and innovative medical techniques.
One of the featured doctors in “Knockout” is Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski, who has identified missing peptides in the blood and urine of people who have cancer.

In “Knockout,” Somers’ small team of medical professionals says that despite what traditional doctors claim, chemotherapy is a dismal failure. In fact, they point out that only three types of cancer actually respond to chemo: testicular cancer, some lymphomas, and childhood leukemias.
“Chemotherapy is worthless for the major cancer killers, such as metastatic disease of the breast, lung, pancreas, and prostate,” says Dr. Gonzalez. “They’ll tell you there’s a good chance your cancer may ‘shrink’ or ‘respond’ to chemo. Regardless of the evidence, doctors continue to put 600,000 Americans on side-effect-laden chemo every year.
As Somers attests in “Knockout,” cancer victims are methodically directed toward traditional treatments without knowing the benefits of alternative cancer-treating strategies.
“When you receive a cancer diagnosis, you’re more vulnerable than at any other time in your life. I’ve personally had the experience twice,” Somers says. “My only hope for survival was alternatives. But that was my decision, what I thought was best for me.”
Somers acknowledges every person must consult with family members and doctors to make the difficult decisions involved in determining their best course of treatment, but it is imperative that everyone be aware of all available options.
“I am not a doctor or a scientist, but merely a passionate layperson, a filter, a messenger. I spoke with so many patients who are living normal, happy, fulfilled lives, and their enthusiasm and great quality of life convinced me that you can indeed live with cancer,” says Somers.
In the end, however, during the dark, lonely experience of having the dreaded disease, Somers says every individual must make their own tough choices.
Somers concludes, “I cannot make up your mind for you. I can only offer these incredible professionals who have chosen to go another way. Some are completely alternative, while some are more integrated, but all are having success, great success.”
