Genetic Counseling in Mount Kisco, New York
The Breast Institute at NWH offers comprehensive Risk Analysis and a thorough Genetic Counseling program to help you assess your risk for ovarian and breast cancer.
Armed with this knowledge and understanding of potential cancer risks, you and your doctors are in a better position to determine appropriate surveillance measures and possible risk reducing strategies to detect cancer early and/or decrease the chance to develop cancer.
While BRCA genetic testing is discussed, there is no requirement to have genetic testing when requesting a consultation with the Genetic Counselor.
The Breast Institute at NWH offers comprehensive Risk Analysis and Genetic Counseling to help you determine whether BRCA testing is right for you. There are other hereditary cancer syndromes that are associated with increased risk for cancers other than breast. For this reason, it is important to review your personal and/or family history of cancer with the Genetic Counselor prior to genetic testing. Find our more at The Breast Institute.
Reducing Your Risk
The Breast Institute offers medical and surgical interventions to help women reduce their genetic risk for breast cancer.
Regular check-ups including cancer screenings are important.
For example, The National Cancer Institute recommends yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health. Schedule your mammography appointment online at the Women’s Imaging Center.

Other factors which contribute to the risk of developing cancer are smoking and obesity.
NWH offers Smoking Cessation Programs to our community for no fee (look for upcoming sessions on our Events listing) and weight loss surgery information and support can be found at the NWH Surgical Weight Loss program.
